Panel Painting Day!

Panel Painting Day!

A few times a year, usually following a large delivery of panels, we have a painting day here in the Benoit's shop. We inspect the panels and give them a fresh sanding, prepare the paint booth and spray gun, and commence painting a whole lot of birch artists' panels. This is really one of their first steps to becoming our engraved map pieces.

It is generally an arduous and meticulous task, but I thought it was a good opportunity to talk about the panels, as they are the foundation of a lot that we do here at Benoit's. We order our birch panels from a company called American Easel. As the name suggests, they manufacture artists' easels and painting panels right here in the United States. They have been manufacturing wooden art products & accessories in the state of Oregon for more than 30 years.

Beyond their USA made heritage, American Easel and the lumber mills they work with are committed to utilizing locally grown and sustainable materials, harvested with the best forestry practices. They have a vested interest in preserving the forests for future generations.

We are proud to use American Easel panels here at Benoit's Design Company and we hope, as you hang a new coastal chart or mountain map, that you feel pride in responsible, ethical USA manufacturing as well.
